1 month old

March 27 was Karson's one month "birthday"

Statistics from 1 month Dr. Appt:
Weight: 7 lb 12 oz--This is a great thing b/c her weight dropped down to 5 lb 10 oz and we had to go to the pediatrician for weight checks until she got back to her birth weight, which was 6 lb. 4 oz.

Height: 20 3/4 inches longs-- At birth she was 18 1/2 inches long

Our little girl is growing!!!!!!

Karson's Arrival

February 27 started out just like any other Sunday morning. Matt and I went to church to teach our 3 year old Sunday School class. I had not been feeling well for about a week with either a cold or sinus stuff, so after Sunday School I wanted to go home to rest. Looking back now, I am thankful we did. It was a beautiful day outside, so we opened the door to the back deck. Matt and I decided to walk around the backyard to check things out and see what needed to be done for our Spring yard work. We walked around the side of the house and that's when it happened....my water broke!!!! At first when I told Matt, he thought I was joking. Then when he realized I wasn't joking, we walked back in the house and started getting our hospital bags together. My sister was the first person I called because she had the longest drive from Beaufort. Matt and I got our stuff in the car and headed to the hospital around 12:45 pm. (Oh by the way, I am thankful we didn't stay for preaching that day b/c my water would have broke during service.) We got to the hospital and got set up in our room. The nurses came in and started hooking me up to the monitors. They contacted the doctor on call for my practice, which was Dr. Bradley (who Matt and I had hoped for). He comes in to see how far I am dilated, which was only 3 cm. Our families start gathering at the hospital and we wait. Later in the afternoon my blood pressure started to rise and then continued to stay really high, like 200/106. Dr. Bradley was somewhat concerned and didn't want my blood pressure to effect the baby. He discussed with us the option of a C-Section and said that is what he suggested we do, so that it wouldn't turn into an emergency later. They prepped me for surgery as Matt went out and told our families what was going on. I was nervous and excited at the same time. Karson Grace Reaves was delivered via C-Section at 6:22 pm on Sunday, February, 27, 2011. Our world hasn't been the same since.

My Mom Saves the Day

So, Saturday I washed the dress I bought to wear to my showers. I read the tag to be sure how it should be washed and cared for. It said, "Machine wash cold and tumble dry low." I really don't like putting dresses in the dryer, but put this one in for 15 minutes to get the wrinkles out. I went in the laundry room after 15 minutes and pulled it out. The seams at the shoulders were ripped and frayed!!!!! I had only worn this dress 2 times and couldn't believe it did that. I bought the dress at the Motherhood store. Needless to say, I was crying and upset. My sweet husband calls the location at the Haywood Mall and they didn't have my size.

So onto Sunday.....mom had gone to visit Megan and Drew in Beaufort and was coming back in time for my shower at church. She stopped by the Columbiana Mall and went into Motherhood, who happened to be having a BOGO sale on their dresses. :) She had mentioned to the cashier about what happened to my dress and the cashier said I needed to bring it back. Mom picked out 2 beautiful dresses for me, she was my lifesaver! Needless to say, I will be going to Motherhood tomorrow after our doctor's appointment to return the dress. The nice thing is that they keep a log of what you buy, so that dress is in their system under my name.

36 weeks....more or less?!?!?!

I haven't updated the blog in a while. We've been really busy preparing for Karson's arrival. Last Tuesday, we had our 36 week appointment. Everything was great. Karson is measuring a little larger than expected, try 38 weeks instead of 36. The doctor wants to do an ultrasound to check her size, so we will be going tomorrow for our weekly appointment and ultrasound.

Showers:
We have had 3 wonderful showers! It is nice to know our little girl is loved my so many already. We are very blessed to have such wonderful people in our lives.

Sickness:
I will have to say that I have been one of the "lucky ones" during this pregnancy. I haven't experienced morning sickness or been sick at all until NOW! Saturday morning I woke up with a scratchy throat and my chest felt tight, which wasn't a good sign. Sunday morning I woke up and felt awful. I just prayed I could make it through the day and my shower at church. After the church shower I came home and went straight to bed, with a terrible cough and chills. YUCK!!!! Matt went out and bought me some medicine. I slept off and on Sunday night. I am still congested, but definitely don't feel the aches and pains I felt yesterday.
